Dr. Virendra Singh is a respected alumnus of SMS Medical College, renowned for his outstanding contributions in the field of Asthma & Respiratory medicine. He earned his MBBS and MD (Medicine) degrees from SMS Medical College and pursued a Respiratory fellowship at City Hospital Nottingham. With a steadfast commitment to healthcare and innovation, Dr. Singh's journey is truly remarkable.

For 32 years, Dr. Singh served as a faculty member at SMS Medical College, in division of Allergy & Pulmonary Medicine, Department of Medicine. His tenure culminated in his role as the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, where he adeptly applied Mahatma Gandhi's principles to administration, earning a reputation as one of SMS Hospital's most successful superintendents. Dr. Singh also excelled as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at RUHS and secretary of the ethics committee, showcasing his multifaceted capabilities and leaving an indelible mark on healthcare management.

Dr. Singh is recognized nationally as a preeminent pulmonologist, having treated over 1.5 million respiratory patients throughout his 46-year practice. His compassionate approach provided relief to patients dealing with various respiratory conditions. He was selected as the South Asia coordinator of the Global Asthma Network, a pioneering organization in global asthma research.

Despite of odds of his age Dr. Singh's dedication remained steadfast as he treated over 10,000 COVID patients & suffered from corona three times. His advisory role in formulating the COVID strategy for Rajasthan underscored his influence in pandemic response planning.

Early in his career, Dr. Singh recognized the challenges posed by asthma and allergic respiratory diseases. His innovative spirit brought him four patents of invention including Pink City Flow Meter, Pink City Lung Exerciser, and several other discoveries in the 1990s. These innovations transformed the diagnosis and treatment of asthmatic patients, earning him the prestigious Independence Day Award from the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC). His respiratory research was published in leading international journals, and he conducted the first double-blind placebo-controlled study to demonstrate the beneficial effects of yoga in asthma. His inventions & fundamental research in respiratory medicine were acknowledged with prestigious awards such as Dr. BC Roy Award, the National Academy of Medical Science Award, and a Cash Merit Award.

Dr. Singh's contributions extended to the establishment of the ILD India Registry, revolutionizing Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) research. His publications stemming from this registry reshaped ILD care nationwide. Dr. Singh served as the Editor-in-Chief of Lung India for 11 years, underscoring his commitment to advancing medical knowledge.

To provide comprehensive and affordable care to respiratory patients, Dr. Singh founded Asthma Bhawan, an institution encompassing patient care, research, and tobacco de-addiction initiatives. His involvement with the Silicosis committee showcased his dedication to combating debilitating diseases. A staunch advocate against tobacco, Dr. Singh's Indian Asthma Care Society (IACS) championed critical writ petitions that influenced legislation against tobacco (COTPA), the ban on gutkha, and the regulation of plastic use in India.

Throughout his life, Dr. Singh's unwavering commitment to excellence and patient well-being has been a driving force. His philosophy of earning patient trust remains a guiding principle, inspiring him to initiate the world-class Rajasthan Hospital (RHL) with his lifetime friend Dr SS Agarwal, to elevate healthcare standards in Rajasthan.
