Dr. Agarwal is an MBBS & MD (Medicine) from SMS Medical College, Jaipur. Over the past 45 years, he has gone on to become not only one of the most respected authorities in the healthcare sector of the country but also a pioneer who helped bring many positive changes along the entire healthcare continuum. Post his MD, in 1982, he established his own hospital “Swasthya Kalyan” in a poverty-ridden area of Jaipur with the driving mission of providing people with “quality services at affordable prices”.

Soon he realized that there were glaring gaps in the healthcare delivery system related to the availability of essential services and qualified personnel. Committed to tackling these problems, he started Rajasthan’s first private ambulance service in 1988, a first private blood bank in 1995, first nursing school in 1998, and first government-approved private paramedical college in 2005. Due to his immense contribution in the field of blood banking, he was awarded by the Governor of Rajasthan on the occasion of Republic Day 2001.

In 2015, Dr. Agarwal was unanimously elected as the National President of the Indian Medical Association. He is currently nominated by The President of India as governing body member of the Indian Red Cross Society. He is also nominated by the Government of India for the Governing Body of AIIMS Jodhpur and by the Ministry of Home Affairs (GoI) in the National Foundation of Communal Harmony. He was a member of the National Blood Transfusion Council, Ethics Committee of Medical Council of India, Central Council of Health & Family Welfare, and National Board of Examinations.

During all this time, he dreamed of starting a hospital that would fulfill his vision of providing quality care at an affordable cost. Conceptualizing this vision, he initiated the RHL Project in 2003. In 2015, he along with his life-long friend, Dr. Virendra Singh, dedicated Rajasthan Hospital (RHL) to the people of Jaipur & Rajasthan.

Through his life, Dr. Shyam Sunder Agarwal has time and again displayed exemplary efforts, inventive vision, and immense dedication to making the society around him a better place for the future generations.
